Overview
Backcountry Aviation is seeking a chief pilot to lead Part 91 and Part 135 flight operations in the Pacific Northwest. Reporting to the director of operations, the role combines regulatory oversight, operational control, pilot scheduling, training leadership, record administration, safety-program implementation, and line flying when required. The chief pilot coordinates with maintenance and operations teams, represents the company during regulatory activity, and helps recruit and manage flight personnel. The position may be based in Port Angeles or Seattle and requires both management capability and current professional flying qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Oversee flight operations under company and FAA safety requirements.
- Exercise delegated operational control and coordinate schedules with operations and maintenance.
- Assign pilots and serve as PIC when operationally required.
- Direct pilot training, standardization and compliance programmes.
- Support recruitment, counselling and management of pilots and operations personnel.
- Maintain required pilot and operational records.
- Represent the operator during regulatory meetings and audits.
- Manage safety programmes, crew instructions and manual revisions.
Requirements
- Meet the management and chief-pilot experience standards in 14 CFR 119.69 and 119.71(c).
- Hold an FAA ATP certificate with Cessna 402C or T303 type qualification.
- Have at least 1,500 total flight hours.
- Have at least 500 multi-engine PIC hours.
- Hold a valid FAA First Class medical certificate.
- Pass required drug and alcohol testing.
- Understand FARs, operations specifications, company manuals, DOT rules and aviation safety standards.
- Prior leadership in a Part 135 airline is preferred.
