Overview
Buffalo Airways is hiring Aerial Fire Suppression Flight Crew for wildfire operations across its northern Canadian network. Pilots operate fixed-wing aircraft at low altitude and high speed over rugged terrain to drop water or retardant on active fires. The fleet includes the L-188 Electra, CL-215, Turbo Commander, King Air 100/C90A and AT-802 Fire Boss. The role requires coordination with ground crews and other aircraft, weather monitoring, inspections, accurate reporting and strict safety compliance. Candidates need at least 1,500 total hours and 1,000 PIC hours, subject to aircraft-specific minima, plus a Commercial Pilot Licence with instrument rating and an ATPL or IATRA.
Responsibilities
- Operate assigned fixed-wing aircraft safely and effectively for wildfire suppression.
- Fly at low altitude and high speed over rugged terrain to drop water or retardant on active fires.
- Follow prescribed aerial-firefighting tactics and operating procedures.
- Coordinate fire-suppression activity with ground crews and other aircraft.
- Monitor weather conditions and communicate changes or hazards to the team.
- Maintain required documents and operational reports accurately.
- Conduct daily aircraft inspections and preflight checks.
- Comply with applicable safety and aviation regulations.
Requirements
- Have at least 1,500 hours of total flight time, subject to aircraft-specific minima.
- Have at least 1,000 hours as PIC, subject to aircraft-specific minima.
- Hold a Commercial Pilot Licence with an instrument rating.
- Hold an ATPL or have completed the IATRA.
- Hold a current medical certificate.
- Demonstrate strong flying skills and quick decision-making under pressure.
- Know applicable aviation regulations and safety procedures.
- Work and communicate effectively with ground crews and other pilots.
- Be flexible for long hours and varied weather conditions.
- Be physically fit for the demands of aerial firefighting.
- Hold a current driving licence and passport.
- Aerial firefighting, forestry or related aerial-work experience is preferred.
- A float endorsement is advantageous.
