Overview
FlySafair is recruiting Boeing 737NG first officers for bases including Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Lanseria. The first officer monitors the flight path and aircraft systems, completes checks, supports flight planning and communicates with air traffic services while maintaining company and regulatory compliance. The pilot must be prepared to assume command if the captain becomes incapacitated. The vacancy accepts both non-type-rated and Boeing-rated applicants under one common experience threshold. Candidates need South African commercial credentials, a current medical, multi-crew and turbine experience, citizenship and travel documents, and the flexibility to work irregular schedules within a safety-critical airline operation.
Responsibilities
- Monitor the flight path, aircraft systems and operational deviations.
- Complete pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight checks and documentation.
- Communicate with air traffic control and navigate in accordance with clearances.
- Apply company procedures, checklists and regulatory requirements.
- Support flight planning, weather, fuel and alternate-airport decisions.
- Assume command if the captain becomes incapacitated.
- Prepare accurate reports for operational events and discrepancies.
- Maintain safety as the primary consideration throughout each duty.
Requirements
- At least 1,500 hours of total flight time.
- At least 500 hours on multi-engine turbine aircraft.
- SACAA Commercial Pilot Licence; an ATPL is preferred.
- Current SACAA Class 1 medical.
- Boeing type rating is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Experience on commercial jets above 20 tonnes is advantageous.
- Previous multi-crew operating experience.
- South African citizenship and valid passport.
- Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Availability for irregular schedules and successful criminal and substance screening.
