Overview

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is recruiting an assistant chief flight instructor for its Prescott campus. The position manages roughly twenty instructors and between 150 and 200 flight students while safeguarding training quality, student service and compliance. It combines daily resource scheduling with instructor supervision, student-progress review, stage checks, end-of-course testing and support for hiring new instructors. The role works closely with the chief flight instructor and department chair and must apply university and FAA training standards consistently across ground and flight activity.

Responsibilities

- Manage assigned instructors and flight students.
- Maintain training quality, student service, safety and regulatory compliance.
- Review student progress and resolve training issues.
- Prepare instructor schedules and maximize aircraft and training-device use.
- Verify student eligibility for assigned ground-school sections.
- Conduct team meetings, stage checks and end-of-course tests.
- Participate in hiring flight instructors.
- Counsel students and instructors and recommend disciplinary action when necessary.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree.
  • Hold a Commercial Pilot Certificate.
  • Hold a Flight Instructor Certificate with airplane single-engine land and instrument-airplane privileges.
  • Hold at least a Second Class medical certificate.
  • Meeting Assistant Chief standards under 14 CFR Part 141 is preferred.
  • Demonstrate analytical ability and proficiency with common Microsoft applications and information systems.
