Overview
Joby Aviation's Flight Research team is seeking a Test Pilot in Concord, California, primarily supporting the Cessna Caravan research programme. The pilot will operate both crewed aircraft and uncrewed systems as airborne or remote pilot in command during developmental and operational testing. This small engineering-focused team expects the pilot to participate across the test lifecycle, from planning and card preparation through execution, analysis and reporting. The role also contributes directly to system design, especially human interfaces and airspace integration. Occasional deployed testing and military exercises require domestic and international travel, generally below one quarter of working time, and the position is subject to United States export-control eligibility.
Responsibilities
- Act as airborne or remote PIC for research aircraft and uncrewed platforms.
- Conduct developmental and operational flight tests under SOPs and regulations.
- Create test plans, cards and formal reports.
- Analyse test data and provide recommendations for system improvements.
- Coordinate preparation, execution and post-test work with other crewmembers.
- Support engineering design, particularly human interfaces and airspace integration.
- Maintain a strong safety culture throughout research operations.
Requirements
- Hold an FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with an instrument-airplane rating.
- Have at least 750 PIC hours and 100 hours of turbine time.
- Hold a bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline, preferably engineering.
- Have at least five years of aviation-operations experience.
- Have at least three years of test-pilot experience.
- Be proficient in spoken and written English.
- Be available for extended hours and domestic or international travel.
- Qualify as a United States person under the stated export-control definition.
- Test Pilot School graduation, CFI credentials and C208 or UAS experience are preferred.
