Overview
The University of Oklahoma is hiring a Flight Instructor I in Norman to deliver structured aviation education to university students. The position combines FAA-approved flight and ground instruction with stage checks, check rides, testing, scheduling, dispatch support, and occasional faculty or staff transport flights. It also contributes to student recruitment, promotional activity, course and training-material development, and basic preventive care of the university aircraft fleet. The variable schedule includes daytime, evening and weekend work. Applicants need an instructor certificate, second-class medical, driving licence and at least secondary education, while no numeric total-time or command-time minimum is specified.
Responsibilities
- Deliver approved flight and ground instruction using established syllabi.
- Conduct stage checks and check rides in accordance with federal guidance.
- Administer required ground tests and provide ground-school teaching.
- Coordinate and schedule student training activities.
- Support daily flight operations through dispatch duties.
- Operate assigned faculty and staff transportation flights.
- Help recruit students and promote the aviation programme.
- Develop course materials and assist with basic preventive aircraft maintenance.
Requirements
- Hold a high-school diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Hold an FAA Certified Flight Instructor certificate.
- Hold and maintain an FAA Second Class medical certificate.
- Hold a valid driving licence.
- Be able to teach students individually and in a classroom.
- Pass the required background and driving-licence checks.
- Be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
